To investigate the effects of Bushen Qiangdu Decoction combined with moxibustion on the Du meridian on lumbar spine function and erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR)，tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)levels in patients with ankylosing spondylitis.Methods:From June 2015 and October 2017，a total of 87 patients with ankylosing spondylitis treated in rheumatology department of Yantai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital were randomly divided into a control group(n＝44)and an observation group(n＝43).Both groups were treated with conventional Western medicine.On the basis of this，the observation group was treated with Bushen Qiangdu Decoction combined with moxibustion on the Du meridian.Both groups were treated for 8 weeks.The clinical therapeutic effects，lumbar function，joint pain，TCM symptom scores，signs and ESR level，serum TNF-α，and IL-6 levels were compared between the 2 groups.Results:The total effective rate of patients in the observation group was 95.45%，which was higher than 72.09% in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment，the function score，spinal pain score，TCM symptom score and finger-to-ground distance of the 2 groups decreased，and those in the observation group were lower than those in control group(P<0.05); the lumbar spine activity and the Schober test both increased.Those in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment，the levels of ESR，serum TNF-α，and IL-6 in the 2 groups were lower than those in the observation group.Those in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Bushen Qiangdu Decoction combined moxibustion on the Du meridian can reduce the levels of ESR，TNF-α and IL-6 in patients with ankylosing spondylitis，reduce pain，improve joint function，and then improve TCM symptoms and signs.
