Multimodality is a hotspot in interdisciplinary research, which plays an important role in the construction and recognition of metaphor. As one of the non-verbal modes, sound is mainly used to activate the source domain and to identify the mapping relationship from the source domain to the target domain. The four-diagnosis method of TCM uses sound to obtain information for diagnosis and treatment.Ancient scholars used onomatopoeia, metaphors, and setting up sounding scenes to record sounds. From the perspective of multimodal metaphor, the paper analyzes the sounds recorded in ancient TCM books with examples, shows the influence of sound on the clinical thinking of TCM in the construction of metaphors, and provides a new perspective for the study of multimodal metaphors in TCM.
