Ulcerative colitis(UC) is a common and refractory digestive system disease of unknown pathogenesis.The therapy of traditional Chinese medicine can address both symptoms and root causes and has little side effects and good long-term therapeutic effect in the treatment of this disease.The traditional treatment of UC mainly focuses on dampness-heat and blood stasis.However,increasing studies have demonstrated that emotional factors play a role in inducing the occurrence and recurrence of UC.The patients with the syndrome of liver depression and spleen deficiency were common in clinical practice,which can be treated with the therapy of soothing liver and invigorating spleen.This article expounds the application of the therapy of soothing liver and invigorating spleen in the treatment of UC from the physiological characteristics of liver and spleen,pathological changes,and clinical prescriptions.
