Cancer seriously threatens the health of people all over the world.Chemotherapy is one of the main treatment methods for human cancer.However,the non-specific cytotoxicity of chemotherapy often leads to hefty adverse reactions that are intolerable in cancer patients.Therefore,it is necessary to explore effective adjuvant strategies to prevent and reduce the adverse reactions induced by chemotherapy.Chinese herbal medicines,which have been used for thousands of years,have many advantages compared with conventional chemotherapeutic agents.They can provide abundant resources for exploring effective adjuvants,and have the potential to prevent and reduce the adverse reactions of chemotherapy.This study revealed the adverse reactions induced by chemotherapy,reviewed the preventive effect of Chinese herbal medicines on chemotherapy-induced bone marrow suppression,gastrointestinal toxicity,neurotoxicity,and cardiotoxicity,and discussed the mechanism of action.
