With the development of life support technology in modern intensive care units,the survival rate of patients in ICU is getting higher.Meanwhile,intensive care unit-acquired weakness(ICUAW) is also attracting more attention.After admission to the ICU,the limbs of critically ill patients often develop weakness and fatigue,which can persist for years.The pathogenesis of ICUAW is still unclear,and no clinically effective approaches are available to prevent and treat ICUAW.As revealed by the current findings,acupuncture and moxibustion treatment have a significant effect on the prevention and treatment of ICUAW.This study reviewed relevant research articles in the last 10 years on acupuncture,electroacupuncture,the combination of acupuncture with medicine,moxibustion,and animal experiments,summarized the acupoint selection rules and mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of ICUAW,and proposed the deficiencies provide references for the clinical treatment of ICUAW.
