Patients with gastric cancer often have imbalances of qi and blood, yin and yang in their Zang-fu organs, and pathologic products such as qi stagnation, blood stasis, and phlegm turbidity can further worsen the imbalance in the middle energizer.Excessive tonification or hasty elimination of pathogenic factors may not be safe.Professor Xie Jingri believes that all tumors are characterized by asthenia in origin and sthenia in superficiality. The righteous qi gradually weakens while the pathogenic factors become stronger. Therefore, the treatment should be based on the common characteristics and characteristics of gastric cancer at different stages and should be patient-centered and harmonious, conforming to the physiological and pathological characteristics of the spleen and stomach, reducing excess and reversing counterflow to achieve an ideal state of spleen-stomach balance.Professor Xie combines the idea of “liver-spleen theory” and proposes the “regulating instead of tonifying” method, which has achieved good clinical results. This article explored Xie's experience in treating gastric cancer with the “regulating instead of tonifying” method.
