The Guidelines for Traditional Chinese Medicine Diagnosis and Treatment of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer is the first guidelines in this field in China.Compared with the western medicine diagnosis and treatment guidelines,it standardizes the application of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in the diagnosis and treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer,highlighting the unique TCM therapies for this disease.The Guidelines was developed by the Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Xiyuan Hospital Affiliated to China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in collaboration with 15 hospitals including Beijing Cancer Hospital.It was drafted by a total of 18 experts and officially released by the China Association of Chinese Medicine on July 28,2022.The tumor experts participating in the drafting of the Guidelines proposed four consensus recommendations for the TCM diagnosis and treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer.They advocate fully utilizing the advantages and characteristics of TCM diagnosis and treatment throughout the entire process of treatment.According to the specific pathological stages,genetic typing,and development trends of patients,doctors can develop the treatment schemes under the guidance of the latest international clinical guidelines and TCM theory.TCM therapies proved to be effective in clinical practice can be combined with conventional western medicine therapies with consideration to different stages of disease development and the actual situation and clinical needs of patients,which can reduce the adverse reactions caused by conventional western medicine treatment,improve the quality of life,and extend the survival,thus maximizing patients' benefits.The Guidelines standardizes the differentiation and typing of metastatic colorectal cancer,the TCM therapies for improving the quality of life and prolonging the survival,and the evaluation of TCM treatment efficacy.It aims to improve the current diagnostic and treatment capability of TCM for metastatic colorectal cancer and provide recommendations and guidance for medical personnel engaged in TCM diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
