Heart failure，a common disease，is the end stage of a variety of cardiovascular diseases.It is a disease of palpitation and asthma categories in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Kidney is the root of yin and yang，and all diseases are rooted in the disorder of kidney，and heart failure is also affected by the changes of kidney.Modern studies have demonstrated that renal function injuries affect the occurrence and development of heart failure by altering the neurohormonal system，inflammation，and oxidative stress.Therefore，it is particularly important for physicians to understand the correlation between kidney and heart failure.According to the theory of heart-kidney intersection，this paper expounds the relationship between kidney and heart and holds that kidney is related to heart failure.Furthermore，the physiological functions and pathological changes of the kidney are analyzed.That is，kidney governs water and qi reception，and the deficiency of kidney yin and yang can cause heart failure.Studying the interaction between renal function injury and heart failure can help reveal the pathogenesis and provide new ideas for clinical diagnosis and treatment of heart failure.
