Acupuncture,as one of the distinctive external treatment methods in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),has been widely recognized by scholars in China and abroad due to its high safety,cost-effectiveness,and ease of operation. In recent years, there have been a growing number of reports on the application of acupuncture therapy in the field of cardiovascular diseases.Relevant studies suggest that acupuncture can have effects on the human body, targeting areas such as ischemic myocardial injury, myocardial electrical activity, enzymes and cytokines, metabolomics, epigenetics, and the central nervous system. It has been found effective in controlling the frequency of angina attacks, reducing the intensity of pain, increasing coronary blood flow, improving symptoms of myocardial ischemia, reducing myocardial oxygen consumption, and enhancing exercise tolerance. This review analyzed and looked back on the clinical evaluation and mechanistic research of acupuncture therapy for angina in coronary heart disease over the past decade, aiming to explore the current state of research in this field and provide future perspectives.
