Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) is a common condition characterized by persistent airflow limitation, with chronic cough, expectoration, shortness of breath, and wheezing as its main clinical manifestations.COPD is associated with progressive decline in lung function, significantly affecting patients' work capacity and quality of life.Due to factors such as increased environmental pollution and smoking, the incidence and mortality rates of COPD are continuously rising.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has achieved good results in the prevention and treatment of COPD due to its holistic and comprehensive characteristics.TCM intervenes in COPD through multiple pathways and targets, including inhibiting airway inflammation, relieving oxidative stress, reducing excessive airway mucus secretion, restoring the balance between proteases and antiproteases, delaying lung aging, and lowering airway hyperglycemia. However, there are still some limitations in current research.Specifically,a large number of animal experiments focus only on disease treatment, lacking studies on syndrome-based treatment.Experimental modeling varies, which affects the comparison of drug efficacy under the same mechanism.Clinical trials use similar testing indicators, lacking innovation. Moreover, most clinical trials are small-scale,single-center studies, resulting in low levels of evidence in evidence-based medicine. Therefore,in future research, modern scientific and technological advancements should be fully utilized to facilitate multidisciplinary approaches and explore the mechanisms of TCM intervention in COPD more comprehensively.
