To explore the current status of the diagnostic criteria, intervention measures, and efficacy evaluation indexes and criteria of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) intervention in abdominal obesity and compare the intervention effects. Methods:The clinical literature on TCM intervention in abdominal obesity from 2001 to 2021 were searched, and the intervention methods, diagnostic criteria, efficacy indexes, efficacy criteria and intervention effects were statistically analyzed. Results:The most common intervention method and diagnostic criteria were acupuncture(68 articles,61.82%),and the Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Overweight and Obesity in Chinese Adults(Trial)(39 articles,38.61%).The main efficacy indexes were waist circumference(WC,88 articles,87.13%),body mass index(BMI,82 articles,81.19%) and body weight(BW,75 article,74.26%),and the secondary indexes were triglyceride(TG,26 articles,25.74%),high density lipoprotein(HDL,23 articles,22.77%) and total cholesterol(TC,23 articles,22.77%).The Simple Obesity Diagnosis and Efficacy Evaluation Criteria was the most used criterion for efficacy assessment(38 articles,52.78%).Combined therapy had the optimal improvement for abdominal obesity(9.72%),among which catgut embedment combined with tuina had the highest improvement rate(17.03%).Conclusion:Research on TCM intervention in abdominal obesity is promising, but the current diagnostic criteria as well as efficacy indexes and criteria of abdominal obesity are not standardized. Therefore, further unified diagnosis and treatment standards are needed to provide scientific and reliable evidence-based basis for clinical intervention.
