Polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS) is a common reproductive endocrine metabolic disease in gynecology,and it is the most common cause of irregular menstruation and infertility in women of childbearing age.Patients with PCOS often present with obesity,and the incidence of metabolic syndrome and metabolic abnormalities is higher in obese PCOS patients than in non-obese individuals.The clinical treatment of the disease with mainly involves oral medication,surgery precedures and lifesyle regulation.However,these treatments have some disadvantages,such as low compliance,to the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and contraindications.Acupoint catgut embedding is a distinctive therapy of traditional Chinese medicine,which has the advantages of long-lasting curative effect,low cost and minimal adverse reactions.Therefore,this article reviews the mechanism and clinical progress of acupoint catgut embedding in the treatment of obese-related PCOS and provide clinical insights and methods for treatment.
