The neuroregulatory mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion has become a hot research topic in the field of acupuncture and moxibustion science in recent years. This mechanism is intended to review the funding situation of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and discuss the current research situation. Methods:The application codes of the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC) in acupuncture and moxibustion related fields from 2013 to 2022 were H3107 meridians and acupoints,H3117 Traditional Chinese Medicine health and rehabilitation, and H3118 traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and moxibustion, and the fund projects concerning the mechanism of acupuncture and moxibustion were statistically analyzed. The funding situation, research contents and disease treatment spectrum, acupuncture intervention types, relevant regulatory mechanisms and signaling pathways were analyzed. Results:There were a total of 252 funded projects in this field. The most studied diseases included cerebral ischemia,Alzheimer's disease, and spinal cord injury. The main regulatory mechanisms and signaling pathways involved neural circuits, autophagy, apoptosis, translation, and stress. Conclusion:In the past 10 years, the NSFC has been increasing its support for acupuncture and moxibustion in the field of neuroregulation. The relevant research involves a wide range of diseases and focuses on many mechanisms and pathways. However, the research on some important application points of the central nervous system and difficult neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis and neuromuscular interface diseases still needs to be deepened.
