Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) is a complex gynecological disorder closely related to liver and kidney functions. With societal development and changes in lifestyle,qi stagnation and phlegm have become significant factors in the pathogenesis of PCOS,with “liver depression accompanied by phlegm” being a critical pathomechanism.Liver failing in governing free flow of qi leads to qi stagnation, and liver-spleen disharmony results in the internal generation of phlegm-dampness.The interaction between liver depression and phlegm-dampness further disrupts the circulation of qi and blood throughout the body, damaging the thoroughfare and conception vessels and depriving nourishment in uterus, thereby leading to the development of PCOS.Based on this understanding, according to TCM theory, exploring the treatment of PCOS from the perspective of liver depression accompanied by phlegm based on the functional interconnections between the liver and other organs as well as the pathogenic factors of phlegm-dampness,can provide new insights for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of this condition.
