Primary immune thrombocytopenia(ITP) is a hemorrhagic disease with the pathogenesis remaining unclear. To explore the pathogenesis of ITP and develop new drugs, this paper reviewed articles about the animal models of ITP and compared the model characteristics with clinical symptoms based on the etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical diagnosis criteria of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The results showed that the most common modeling method was induction with antiplatelet serum, and the model established with this method showcased high fitting degrees with the models of spleen failure in governing blood and qi failure in controlling blood. This modeling method was simple and repeatable. However, most of the models were evaluated based on the indicators in Western medicine and cannot completely simulate the whole onset process and state of ITP.In addition, the models lacked the description of TCM syndromes. In view of these shortcomings, efforts should be made to improve the models of ITP.
