By conducting statistics and analysis of global Oenothera biennis roots-related patent applications using the IncoPat patent database，the current status and development trends of these patents were revealed.The results indicated that China，South Korea，and Japan were the main sources of technology and key regions for patent layout for O.biennis roots globally.The current research hotspots included Chinese medicine formulations using O.biennis roots，cosmetics，health-functional foods and beverages，chemical preparations，and animal feed.Although the number of O.biennis roots-related patent applications in China far exceeded that of other countries，the overall value of these patents was relatively low.Based on the development trends of the O.biennis roots industry，it is recommended that Chinese patent applicants formulate reasonable development strategies based on their own advantages and market positioning.
