Master TCM physician Zhou Zhongying proposed the theory of “latent toxicity”,suggesting that latent toxicity has the characteristic of remaining dormant over time and only manifesting when triggered. From the perspective of etiology and pathogenesis, the onset of prostate cancer can be attributed to the internal and external latent toxicity concealed within the body, leading to the depletion of healthy qi and the generation of pathological products such as dampness, phlegm, and stasis, which combine to form toxins and abruptly cause disease. Moreover, the pathogenic characteristics and nature of prostate cancer closely align with the latent toxicity's traits of being hidden, lingering, depleting energy silently, and exhibiting sudden and complex transformations. In treatment,it is essential to seize the appropriate timing, differentiate and treat according to stages, and clearly understand the patient's disease stage and the nature of the latent toxicity.Distinguishing between externally contracted latent toxicity and internally generated latent toxicity is also crucial. At the same time, integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, enhancing efficacy while reducing toxicity, and treating the five Zang-organs together with a holistic approach to both body and mind are recommended.
