This study summarized Professor WANG Linpeng's academic thoughts on the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia with the method of “dispelling pathogenic factors and dredging collaterals”.Drawing on the experience of previous practitioners，professor WANG Linpeng has developed the acupuncture approach of “dispelling pathogenic factors and dredging collaterals” and advocates for a staged treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia.He emphasizes that different acupuncture protocols should be determined based on the pathogenic characteristics，phases of the condition，and the balance between pathogenic factors and the healthy qi in the body，and proposes that local acupoint selection should be based on syndrome differentiation of meridians and collaterals.He focuses on expelling pathogens during the acute pain phase and a combination of supporting the healthy qi in the body and expelling pathogens during the remission phase.He also places importance on regulating the internal organs and smoothing the meridians and collaterals，while cautiously using trigger point therapy.This approach has yielded significant clinical success.
