This paper provides a detailed review of the development of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) four examinations diagnostic equipment from policy promotion, the overall trends in patents and products, and research into key technologies.By summarizing the advancements in technologies such as tongue and facial imaging, pulse devices, and meridian and collateral analysis instruments,it highlights the core research and development(R&D) technologies of four examinations diagnostic equipment and offers suggestions for product innovation. The research shows that since 2009,the government has introduced six policies to support the R&D of TCM equipment, facilitating the intelligent development of TCM medical devices. The number of TCM medical device companies has increased rapidly, with significant breakthroughs particularly in areas such as wearable devices, intelligent rehabilitation tools, and medical robots. There have been approximately 1 368 patents related to TCM auxiliary diagnostic equipment. In terms of technology, pulse diagnosis collection has shifted from a single parameter approach to a mixed-parameter model. The tongue and facial diagnostic instrument has achieved standardized diagnosis through artificial intelligence, while meridian and collateral analysis instruments are still in the exploratory phase and cannot yet fully support clinical practice.Despite significant progress in both product development and technology, challenges remain, such as low industry concentration and concerns about product safety. In the future, these diagnostic tools will depend on the establishment of clinical standards and continued technological advancements to achieve broader applications and support the modernization of TCM.
